Cycling
My cycling interest started at a very young age when I used to go on bike rides with my dad along the canal and near by woodlands. After playing rugby for 3 years as part of school and a club I decided to pack it in after breaking my nose one too many times.
Pictures to the right was my first road bike. After watching the 2012 Olympic games, Bradley Wiggins win the 2012 Tour de France and I was watching La Vuelta (The Spanish Tour) whilst reading an article about this bike it was too tempting.
My dad and I both bought the same bikes, at first it was difficult cycling such distances but as the year went on we could both see huge improvements. I still have this bike today however it is in Spain so we can use them on Holiday.
After a year of riding it was time the B'Twin left and a better bike was in order. However this one was slightly different!
The Boardman CX Team'13 is a cyclocross bike which means it is strong and durable for dirt tracks and grass but it still has the speed when taken on the road.
As for my current bike, this thing is fast! Being a full carbon race bike which I bought to hopefully compete in the future, this is my favourite bike. I have only owned this bike from July 2014 but since riding it I have improved so much. In 2012 when I first started riding on the roads it would take me around 15 minutes to get to the top of our local hill, now I hold the record on MapMyRide (cycling app) at 4 minutes 56 seconds.
I am a member of Pedalsport cycling club based in Halifax. There is a training track in Elland (where I live). I enjoy using the training track on club nights and cycling as often as I can with my Dad.
The above pictures are all fairly recent, taken when out riding or just admiring new bits of kit. The bottom right picture is from a Sportive ride I did around the hills of Holmfirth which you can see on the strava activity below. A sportive is supposed to be a fun ride although people are still very competitive, I came in 12th place out of over a hundred and I was the youngest rider.
My cycling ambition is to ride from Lands End to John O'Groats and London to Paris. An even bigger goal is to ride from my house in England to Spain. We just need to convince mum to follow us in the Van which will take some doing...
